Looking Back: 10 Years Since Lance Corporal Graham Shaw’s Funeral

The Huddersfield Veterans attended the funeral of Lance Corporal Graham Shaw, the first soldier from Huddersfield to be killed in Afghanistan.

The 27-year-old from Golcar was serving with the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, when he was tragically killed while on foot patrol near Malgir in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

“He was 27-years-old, totally selfless, an excellent soldier and the best of fun,” Lieutenant Colonel Tom Vallings, Commanding Officer 3 YORKS, said at the time. “He had that knack of being able to balance both work and play to ensure he got the very best out of all that he tackled. He was from Huddersfield and he had that Yorkshire fighting spirit in abundance. You would want him on your team whatever the task.”

Looking back at Lance Corporal Shaw’s repatriation and funeral, the Huddersfield Veterans Association wanted to offer its condolences to his family and friends once again, ten years after the sad event.
