120th Anniversary, 2017

Huddersfield and District Army Veterans Association members and their invited guests, along with the Yorkshire Regimental Band, celerbrated the association's 120th Anniverary at the Drill Hall on Sunday, 1st October 2017.

The guest of honour was Sqdn Ldr Dinmore, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire. The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment played for the guests and were conducted by Captain Gary Clegg.

There were some eighty veterans and wives present, together with forty members of the band. A special guest attending the function was Jack Thorpe who had travelled from France - he was the official guide for the veterans' trip to Ypres this year. The only two lady veterans were also present.

An extensive buffet was provided for the veterans and the band, along with a barrel or two of real ale.

Robert Sugden commented that the occasion was a very special one commemorating 120 years since the Army Veterans Association was formed in Huddersfield in 1897, and that the association is one of only two in the whole of the UK.

He added that the veterans were very impressed with the band's performance, in their immaculate red uniforms, and they entered into the spirit of the celebrations with great enthusiasm. The veterans gave the band a standing ovation at the end of their performance.
