Huddersfield Veterans

As part of the celebrations of 120 years since the Association was founded in 1897, forty members and committee were on parade at Huddersfield bus station at 08:00 for their annual outing which this year was to the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield. The inspection was carried out by Major Stephen Armitage.

After a welcome refreshment stop on a hot day at the Royal British Legion Club in Alrewas the Veterans enjoyed three hours walking around the Arboretum looking at the hundreds of memorials and many new ones.

The Veterans frequently stopped to chat with other members of the public who are always most interested in learning about their medals and the origins of the Association.

Many Veterans had their own particular missions in finding memorials to family members or to particular regiments.

The journey back took a scenic route via Ashbourne and Buxton to Ashton under Lyne Golf club where the Veterans enjoyed an excellent three course dinner before returning to Huddersfield.
