1940s Weekend, Meltham

Huddersfield Veterans once again took part in Meltham Memories war time festival, joining thousands of people who travelled back in time to a bygone era – the wartime Britain of the 1940s.

Around 8,000 people converged on Meltham during the two-day event held on 1st and 2nd July – many of them dressed in period clothes.

This was the first time that the event was all brought into the village and it seemed to work a treat. There was plenty to enjoy from displays of vintage vehicles and big band music to a flypast of a Spitfire on Saturday.

Throughout the day there were stalls and entertainment in the village. Music and stalls took over the streets and there was a real ale festival at St Bartholomew’s Church Hall.

The fire station on Holmfirth Road was the place to go for your burgers, there was also an aircraft on fire  after crashing into the fire station's roof.
