Over sixty veterans and guests gathered at the Greenhead Masonic Hall on Friday, 6th January 2017, for the Huddersfield and District Army Veterans’ annual dinner.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Councillor Jim Dodds and his wife Carol were guests of honour at the dinner. They were welcomed by Major Stephen Armitage, TD.

After a few drinks and a delicious three-course dinner, Major Armitage thanked the Mayor and his wife for attending. Councillor Dodds then gave a short speech to the veterans.

Major Armitage also thanked Rev. Canon Stephen Henry who has stood down after being the Association's Honorary Chaplain for the last twenty three years.

Thanks were also given to Mr. Robert Sugden, who has served as the veterans' Flag Day Officer for seven years, and to Veteran David Croft, who has been the Assistant Flag Day Co-ordinator for ten years. Major Steven Marren will take over from Mr. Sugden and Veteran David Thomas will replace David Croft as Flag Day Co-ordinator.

Staff working at the Masonic Hall were then invited to come out of the kitchen and take a bow as Major Armitage thanked them for an excellent meal and wonderful service.

On completion of the speeches a raffle was held. Having sold raffle tickets to the veterans before the meal was served, Veteran Ken Mousley announced the winning numbers, which were drawn by the Mayor's wife, Carol Dodds.
