Scarborough, 2016

48 members of Huddersfield & District Army Veterans Association gathered at Huddersfield Bus Station at 8:30 am on 28th June 2016 to embark upon their annual summer trip.

Prior to leaving Huddersfield, the veterans were mustered and inspected by their Chairman, Major Stephen Armitage, before making their way to the coach for the journey to Scarborough.

A short stop was made at the Ham and Cheese Inn, Scagglethorpe, for coffee and biscuits, after which the veterans resumed their journey to the Palm Court Hotel in Scarborough.

They arrived at the hotel in time for a couple of glasses of liquid refreshment before a very nice buffet lunch was served. After lunch had been partaken, most of the veterans spent the afternoon taking in the delights of Scarborough, although some only made it to the British Legion Club!

Later in the afternoon the veterans returned to the Palm Court Hotel for some more light refreshment before forming up outside the hotel for the annual photograph, after which they made their way to the Pike Hills Golf Club at York, where a most enjoyable evening meal was provided.

When the meal was over, a raffle was held. Having sold raffle tickets to the veterans while the coach was en route to the golf club, Veteran Ken Mousley announced the winning numbers, which were drawn by one of the girls from Pike Hills.

On completion of the raffle the veterans once again boarded the coach for the return journey. It was a very wet return trip with dark skies and heavy rain all the way home. The coach eventually arrived back in Huddersfield at 9:30 pm.
