Lindley Bowling Club

Huddersfield Army Veterans gathered at Lindley Bowling Club on Thursday, 4th August for their annual bowling match. The club, off Daisy Lea Lane, was set up by a group of wealthy businessmen in 1895, just two years before the Huddersfield and District Army Veterans Association was established.

The club competes in a number of different bowling leagues including Elland, Brighouse Veterans, Huddersfield Veterans, Huddersfield Works, Colne Valley and Huddersfield, but Thursday was the day for Huddersfield Army Veterans to hold their once-a-year play off.

The unsettled weather we have been experiencing over the past few days didn't look to promising at the start, but by the time the competition began the sun came out and it turned out to be a glorious day.

Veterans played sets throughout the afternoon until the two finalists were decided.  The last set was played between the current champion, David Croft, and John Tracey, but after John pulled out with a bad back David ceded the game making John Tracey this year's champion.
